"I need the visitor"
Les 12 et 13 April 2012
The FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais focuses since several years on a direct relationship with his public. New and innovative methods are experienced in order to establish a dialogue with the visitor.
Preparing his installation in his new premises in the harbour of Dunkirk, the FRAC set up an international team of experts, who exchange their experiences on a regular basis. The international platform composed of S.M.A.K. (Gent) , Turner Contemporary (Margate) and Firstsite Gallery (Colchester) reflected on the question of how to engage with audiences in order to establish a new kind of relationship.
Within this context two days of workshops will be organized, involving people working in international museums, professional artists (working with a wide variety of media). These workshops will be open to professionals of the contemporary art-circuit, but also for teachers and students of art schools and universities.
The main theme of these sessions will be the role played by the artist as the real protagonist and driving force for the activities of a cultural institution.
Participants :
Josep Maria Martin, artist (Barcelone, Genève) ; Karen Elsea, Head of learning, Turner Contemporary, Margate (Grande Bretagne) ; Sandra Ortmann, Head of learning, Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel (Allemagne) ; Judith Merrit, Head of learning, Firstsite Gallery, Colchester (Grande Bretagne) ; Mehdi A., artist (Dunkirk, France) ; artists from TRACK Gent; among else.
